A hundred and fifty years ago people didn't use credit to buy things. Transactions were
"cash on the barrelhead". So, if you had a house, you worked for it, earned it, and then
lived in it. If you had children you fell in love, got married, and supported the children
that resulted. If you had food, you or someone quite close to you, raised it and brought
it to market.
