We have a family member who is agoraphobic, afraid of Covid (claiming to be immunocompromised, but seems otherwise healthy), and claims to have “sensitivity to gluten”.
Each time the family gets together my mother-in-law has to prepare a special menu just for him. We are relatively certain this person is a hypochondriac. (They claimed to also have gout.)
It’s almost like telling folks that you have some mental illness or medical condition is the new vogue.
Also, while I’m still on my rant, it drives me crazy to hear parents just about brag to others that their child has texture issues. I get it - some kids are on the spectrum and truly do. But... I don’t know. Growing up in the 80s, I never heard of such a thing. It wasn’t until the last 5-7 years that I recall people boasting about this.
