Oh, I'd say there are definitely many folks "engaged in fraud" (NASA). This guy is just a stooge who was unwittingly doing his small part to expose it.
A little harsh on Etienne Klein. Among astronomers, it's an obvious fake because it's not possible to image the discs of stars unless with special techniques (e.g. interferometry). So it may be a cute joke among colleagues, but blew up when seen by normal folks who are not well-versed in astronomy. No need for pitchforks, I think.
The only recent scientific mess-up I recalled caused by NASA was this:
They really screwed that one up. Not fraud, but Go-fever thinking they had something big, resulting in premature shouting-from-rooftops. As for the Mars microbes, scientists are still debating it and the debates will never end. And whether the Moon missions are fake, well, I'll skip that one.
More serious are those NASA financial games. JWST started with a USD 1 billion budget plan that grew to USD 10 billion.
Well I happen to believe that almost EVERYTHING NASA has ever done/said is a fraud, just like all the other 3/4-letter agencies that can't be trusted - e.g. CIA, FBI, CDC, NIH, FDA and on and on. Birds of a feather....
Agree it was a prank, but it's also kinda stoopid for a guy with a degree and a reputation like he supposedly has to do that kind of goof.
It damages his reputation, cause every time he releases something now, people will be suspicious he's goofing again.
That's the trouble with Twitter I guess. Social pressures starts to control you, if you bow to the masses (or the mob, or whatever). Conform. Don't be the pesky nail that's sticking out of the wood. Hmmm.
Calm down. Nobody engaged in fraud.
It was just someone's prank, blown out of proportion. Long ago, it used to be safe to be a prankster.

Well okay, no problem 😎👍
Cheers!

He showed us,the MSM will print anything even a slice of sausage.
I think that was his real point, and he was very brave to make it.

Pics or it didn't happen.
No worries 😎👍
