Since the 80's, I don't believe there's been many, if any, athletes who just randomly died on the field. Sure, people have passed out, maybe died as a result of on the field, but not people dead ON the field waiting for a medic (or at least extremely rarely).
I can think of a handful of instances involving the strength and conditioning parts of the college FOOBAW regimen, but they almost always involved sickle cell, old school hydration approaches, or a rabid S&C coach causing the team to get Rhabdo.
