There might be some value to digging large canals to be filled with ocean water. Without using energy to desalinate, a new body of water in the middle of a desert could cause the dry air to begin evaporating the water, which effectively desalinates it. Then the rain clouds could redistribute the unsalted water to the surrounding dry land.
Of course there’s the issue that researchers say rain water all over the earth now has harmful chemicals. I guess we’ll have to make due as best we can while cutting down on actual pollution, and while ignoring the whole global warming CO2 hoax.
de salinization is too inefficient at large scales, ridiculously expensive. its unfortunately not a good solution to get water to people at the moment, not until we have more efficient means to both generate power, and consume less of it in the process.
also, the ocean doesnt need to get deeper for de salinization lol, the ocean is very deep already...
If it came down to major catastrophic problems "from ice melt" then we would have that as an incentive to improve tech. There are many solutions to both macro and micro problems we may face.

yup, lots of chemicals all over. Big anything is bad. I try to do local business when possible.

Er... was somewhat tounge-in-cheek.
