I'm happy with the little I have tried with it. Direct search comparisons go from -nothing- on one search engine to -quite a lot- on Freespoke. I will need to do more testing, but freespoke is certainly a viable engine.
You can manually set it as your default search engine on your PC browser, but I haven't figured out how to do it on any mobile browser I've tried. You can just go to freespoke.com on your mobile browser and search that way.
Bright Insight's test fails on Freespoke.com also. Only Yandex.com does not fail among major search engines. I had been using Neeva until I realized that they do the same thing since they just pool results from the other major engines. You may also try Searx and Yacy, they do not fail in this way as they are peer to peer and not run for profit by our tech overlords, but they are pretty slow compared to Yandex.

Google was the same in the old days, the more it's used the better it gets.

You can say that again. What comes closest to giving unlimited searches and not preapproved? Is there a search engine not dependent on Google?
I use https://swisscows.com and https://webcrawler.com
