We also from a young age tend to favor others with the same capacity as ourselves. IF you are smarter than most you can think back to early childhood and remember not connecting or caring for many in your group.
Throughout life this continues and you seldom learn to really know "normies", only some people in certain fields meet others and really learn how little most people reflect upon the world and on themselves.
In another carreer in an earlier part of life I myself got better understanding of the average person; while being an army officer and having different platoons with different average IQs it dawned on me that I never before made friends or really learnt to know people much "dumber" than myself. Probably because I didn't connect and they probably thought I was weird and complicated since it took many years for me to learn to shut up and not vent ideas and thoughts unless being with likeminded people.
But it became very clear that many soldiers (in the platoons where higher than average IQ wasn't required) really didn't have what for me constitues a normal mind which should have a thoughtprocess involving thoughts about oneself, ones situation and a healthy scepticism about most things.
Long post but this is an interesting issue and one that keeps coming back since it is one of the big reasons why we are in this mess; people are easy to fool.
