In 1936 Hitler nationalized 4 central banks in Germany. The banks themselves were nationalize but the accounts were not. So why do it? Because they can then issue currency interest free. Because of a lack of gold reserves, German based the value of this currency on the invested infrastructural and so by doing, inflation stayed stagnate, while at the same time more wealth became available.
