It will be interesting in the long run to see if graphene's approach to apps that need google services (like Signal) is better. Graphene sandboxes the real google code to block spying, which works as long as no cpu-level exploits are found and inserted into an update. The others run the microG fake google, which mostly works as long as it doesn't turn into a way to hack in.
If an alternative to google notification service was around, we'd be so much better off.
