I don't believe the mainstream consensus of memories forming later and suspect a failure to understand the mechanisms behind memory formation and more importantly recall.
My guess is that we use different triggers to recall memories as we age since most of our adult triggers are verbal, while toddlers are just starting to develop language and hence require different triggers for recalling memories. Triggers which later may or may not be forgotten as we shift to verbal queues.
I have memories from around age 1, and it's definitely not this "home video" hypothesis because I haven't watched any.
That said, rope the "professors", legally. Capital punishment for child abuse and mutilation.
