We need to be citing primary sources here: https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/coronavirus-covid-19-update-fda-authorizes-moderna-pfizer-biontech-bivalent-covid-19-vaccines-use
Key points:
This is all done using EUA. These are NOT FDA approved injections. They're experimental drugs. Pfizer and Moderna are protected from liability lawsuit under EUA, unlike with full approval.
This is likely perfunctory. They were already taking orders for it before it received EUA approval. Was approval ever actually in question if the government had already purchased the product and was preparing nationwide distribution? See City of Philadelphia's vaccine site.
Both Pfizer's and Moderna's bivalent (meaning it has 2 strains against 2 targets) target the original, wild type and Omicron BA.1 strains. Neither of these variants has circulated in the US for months. They're selling you on effectiveness against BA.4/5, but that was not the source of the strain in the vaccine. They're implying it based on lab results.
Research by press release! I have been able to find data from Pfizer's bivalent vaccine in this June 25, 2022 press release. This data is from people ages 56y and older. I have no idea where the pediatric data came from. Moderna's data appear to be in this June 8th press release. This trial had 437 patients. FDA's press release cites a trial of 600 and one of 800. I strongly doubt they actually did 3 new trials here.
Trying to actually follow this stuff is a nightmare the way they're doing this. "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit."
