I bought a Grecell battery backup for less than $200 online. It has multiple USB ports and can be charged up from house current, solar cells, or even your car through the cigarette lighter port. It also has a 110 outlet powered by an inverter. If you use led lights, fans, etc., that work on 12 volts, then you can keep the inverter turned off and save power. As a test, I fully charged it and unplugged it. I have charged a number of USB devices with it, and it still has nearly 100% charge.
I just looked online, and the price is now above $200. It has gone up $40 in just two weeks. 9.1% inflation my ass.
It might be better to depend less on electricity. Store canned or otherwise preserved food. Have a large supply of candles and oil lanterns with fuel. Also, think about going to bed at night and getting up in the morning so you don't need lights as much. Have hand tools. I have an egg-beater type drill that is quicker to deploy and use than an electric drill in some instances. A swing blade or old-time rotary push mower work too. I have both just in case. You can still buy windup radios with AM/FM and shortwave. I have an original BayGen Freeplay windup radio from 1999: https://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2018/03/freeplay-radio-trevor-baylis-dezeen-hero-852x579.jpg
The biggest blackout remedy right now is to not live in a blue state. :)
No offense my fellow Pede, but if SHTF I’m not mowing my yard.
It might be a good side hustle. I don't plan on mowing if there's actual chaos, but I will be mowing some in the back where no one can see, as I hate snakes.
