Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
You cannot really study the New Testament in isolation and understand it. The Bible is a hyperlinked document; if you study the New Testament in truth you cannot avoid studying the Old Testament. Keep at it and you will understand this truth.
What you say is true.
Rough numbers for how many times the OT is quoted or alluded to in the NT:
Quotes: 302
Allusions: 493
Possible allusions: 138
Total: 933
Truth isn't that hard, it is really quite simple, if you think I have to go all into the doctrines that men contrive from the Old Testament, you'd be wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I've read the whole Bible, I was raised in a fundamentalist church, I've heard the Old Testament taught, I simply don't need it now. I do enjoy someone who can teach it well, I can discern when they are teaching it well, but it is not a thing I need to concentrate on. I really like a particular teacher of Revelation, he knows his Old Testament quite well, I can discern that, but the Revelation is about Jesus Christ........who's body we are. Follow Jesus Christ.
