Rand is almost exclusively hailed as a goddess of liberty, but it is perfectly clear in Atlas Shrugged that she was a fanatical elitist who salivated at the idea of a breakaway society where the elites would live in paradise while the rest of the world crumbles into a nightmare of desolation. No offense, but I'm pretty sure that just about everyone here wouldn't make her list of the ones who would join her in libertarian paradise.
You absolutely didn't understand that book at all.
The point of Galts gulch was to act as a lifeboat to the people who were being attacked by the government elites you mistakenly believe are the ones who escaped.
It would be like you and all your friends and family go buy a piece of land and create your own self-sustaining off grid community. Should they not be allowed to do that just because these people were the ones the rest of society leeched off of?
Thats really fucked up bro... it's like telling a rape victim she can't leave her rapist because he really enjoys pinning her down and dumping loads into her.
The majority of the inhabitants of the Gulch didn't choose to go, they were forced to go by thievery and exploitation, and one by one Fransisco or Ragnar or John came for them with those dollar symbol cigarettes and threw them a life preserver. a golden ticket invite to a place which appreciated them and values their contributions to society.
The disappearances were each their own sign of a failing system, a symbol of the systems self-inflicted wounds and a testament to the will and tenacity of the others who would soon disappear as well. As each person left, more of the system crumbled... but it was the system who killed the system not the refugees who escaped it.
You can't blame the gears for seizing up if the operator is draining the oil and dumping in sand.
Dagney resisted leaving, she actively attempted to stop people, to save the world... only to find out that they all felt the way she did until the elites took too much, and they had no choice left but to run.
When the elites sized the oil fields, Wayatt burned them to the ground and vanished with a big "FUCK YOU" (I leave it to you just as i found it) sign in his front yard... and if you don't feel the same exact way he did then I seriously gotta wonder what it is you're even doing on this website.
Imagine you spend your whole life building up a business, employing hundreds of people, providing a vital service to the world and then one day the government decides they are tired of paying you for use of your services and just takes it all with no compensation...
Are you saying you'd just roll over and take it in the ass like that?
It wasn't like a bunch of snooty elites left because they decided "well fuck the peasants, i piss on them, i'd rather go be a selfish hypocrite"... (thats actually called the democrat party).
With few exceptions (like the singer, lol), each person at the gulch was there for the same reason Marvin built the killdozer. the elites pushed and pushed and stole and threatened... and one by one the producers of the world just gave up and became escaped slaves...
After holding up the world for all of modernity and taking all the slings and arrows... eventually atlas shrugs (would make a cool book title huh?).
It wasnt the elites she venerated it was the producers. You missed the entire point. If we dont work they don't eat. So, we stop producing for them. Let them fail.
