Your feelings are the conduit of your prayer. The feeling of powerlessness is particularly powerful. When praying through powerlessness, you're very able to be heard by God through Christ. You don't need to pray to Christ, you can pray to God, Christ will facilitate your connection.
The intensity of your emotion is directly correlated with your chances of your prayers being answered. You need to genuinely cry out to God (not necessarily audibly, but emotionally).
The problem is, it's difficult to go to pray and force yourself to feel intense powerlessness in order to have a successful prayer. To help with this, you need to get in the habit of praying regularly, in all things. That way, when you have a true, genuine moment of intense emotion, you'll pray out of habit. You won't even think about it.
As far as praying for money goes, God won't smite you for doing so. But it's not necessary. All you need to do is say something like, "please God, please!" He'll know exactly what your concern is at the time.
In times when you're feeling less needy, ask God how you can selflessly serve him better in the world.
It does work. It is proven beyond all doubt. Don't give up. Pray to God regularly.
PS, dipping your toes in Kabbalah or any other sort of mysticism can indeed be dangerous, even for someone with experience. If it's wisdom you crave, the Holy Spirit's got you covered.
If you don't believe in Christ yet, no problem. Ask him for proof. Regularly. He understands that you need some reason to believe. Have faith, it will come. I have no reason to lie to you.
Pray to God. The angels work for God.
