Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. — Revelation 4:11
I remember playing sports as a child and one thing that was always important was practice. It was not that we didn’t know how to play the game. Many of us were fans of the sport, studying hours of our favorite sports stars and mimicking their every move. It was that practice helped us be prepared for the moments that were ahead for us.
While mimicking those that we admired was fun, it was not like those moments were truly duplicated in real life. A variety of skill levels were present and mistakes were often made in game situations. When we took the time to practice, it prepared us for what was ahead.
When John saw Heaven in Revelation, he saw a lot of things. People will often argue over the details of what John saw. Truthfully, John no doubt had trouble explaining exactly what he saw with all the splendors of Heaven. He didn’t struggle with describing the worship of heaven, however.
Throughout Revelation, John describes the worship and praise of God that is happening around the throne. Singing, praising, and worship are all actively happening there. Yet, so many times we find ourselves running from worship experiences here. Churches are struggling with attendance and people no longer seem to value worship together.
Yet that is exactly what Heaven will be. Worship together, praising our God forever! What better way to be prepared for Heaven than to practice for what lies ahead! We should seek out opportunity to praise and worship our God with others. After all, we will be doing it throughout all eternity.
