Won’t say what state, but it was in a VERY red state in a moderately rural area. I just felt vindicated when I overheard 3 former Californians, 1 customer and 2 employees, conversing about hating California and moving here to get away from all the liberal craziness. One of them was apparently a veteran from San Diego and the other was from Temecula, not sure where the third one was from.
Anyway, I just felt a little vindicated hearing about a bunch of former Californians who moved to a VERY red state talk about how they hate liberals and moved here because the state aligned more with their personal beliefs, morals, and politics.
Figured I’d share it since people on our side have this weird disconnect where a lot of them want to act like EVERYONE who moved to a red state from a blue state (usually California and New York), is an Uber liberal who will vote blue and ruin their new state.
That’s simply not true. It’s not 100% of course, but the overwhelming majority of transplants to red states (85-90%~) are conservative and moving to escape liberalism and find somewhere that’s more inline with their beliefs and morals. The same is true of transplants to blue states.
It’s called the Gate’s Gulch phenomenon. It’s from Atlas Shrugged. Basically, people congregate where they feel like they’ll find those who are like minded. That’s why places like LA and NYC are technically still growing in terms of population, even if the state as a whole is losing population. Liberals move into the Uber liberal metropolitan areas in blue states but the rest of the state sees a drastic population decrease since all the conservatives in rural areas and even in the urban and suburban areas are moving out in droves to Red States.
Think about New York. NYC is growing, but upstate is seeing a population decline.
I realize this is a bit of rant, but I just felt a bit vindicated after this encounter and figured I’d make a post sharing it and pointing out the hypocrisy that some on our side seem to have.
We can’t have it both ways. Either everyone moving to red states is a liberal and turning them legitimately blue, or they’re cheating and red states are much redder than we believe while blue states are light red/pink at the very least despite the influx of liberal into their urban centers.
Rant over, feel free to discuss.
I also don't like hearing that tired narrative that California can drop into the ocean because everyone here deserves it. Take Los Angeles...nobody BUT Communists run for office here. And add to that the likelihood of rigged elections going way back. So it's really crappy to actually live here, feel this way, wish there was someone to vote for, and still get swept further into Communism by the day just trusting the plan.
People who say that are kind of ignorant in all honesty. As much as we’d like to think otherwise, we NEED California, if for its climate and rural areas if nothing else. California produces something like 1/3 of all produce in the USA. So if we lost California then guess what happens to our food supply and prices?
There’s a reason they target certain states for the corruption. California is because of its agricultural and technological importance. New York for its financial importance, Georgia because of its military bases and ports. Texas because it’s the largest border state. Virginia and Maryland because of their proximity to DC.
The cheating is strategic and there’s a reason behind all of it.
To add to your point, not only are they the breadbasket of the west, but they have the PORTS. California is immensely important
