There is nothing better in this world. Keep those eyes, ears and heart open. In the end it's memories that are all we have of those wonderful times.

I am quite a bit early with this advice, but be the parent that drives the kid and friends wherever they want to go. It can seem inconvenient at times, but it's special shared time (vital with the moments being so precious) and a great way to learn what is going on in their world. Once friends start to trust you, they will say just about anything on those rides.
