It's not that simple. You can follow a leader who's worthy of your efforts and still maintain your independence, evaluate what's going on. God requires that and so does the UCMJ.
Surrendering your own mind to propaganda is what i'm talking about.
To follow someone is a different matter. The word in reference is obedience, which is neither natural nor good. It's what slaves must do.
Following, of course, is an act of personal will and choice, which can and should change (growth requires change, obedience doesn't allow it).
When you give authority to someone else, you do it on your own authority.
