Damn! I thought I had a decent engine. Guy called me Friday to let me know when they pulled it out it was no good. $800.00 is a good price for a rebuild
There is also a poor-man's rebuild where you hone (polish) the cylinders walls, put in new piston rings (still using your old pistons) and grind the valves.
It’s my timing chains. This particular vehicle has 3 different timing chains. To fix the problem the engine has to be pulled completely out. It was going to cost me $800.00 for the engine (from another vehicle) and $500.00’for my guy to put it in. It’s been a real pain in the ass. I bought the car for my sister who is disabled and a recent (early 2019 pre-Covid kidney transplant). It’s her only way of transportation as she has many doctor appointments and a weekly ant-rejection infusion as she couldn’t tolerate one of the other heavy duty drugs so that means I’m transporting her wherever she needs to go. I’m having a heck of a time with this
Where’s your friend at? I need a rebuilt engine for a 2005 Ford Explorer
Sometimes crate engines are the way to go

Make sure all of the electronics are compatible --- even if it is the same year. Modern engines do stupid computer incompatibility shit.
I like much older stuff --- carburetors.
Diesel only

$800.00 looks like a short block price. Long blocks are usually in the thousands.
You have "long blocks" whole engine rebuild
and "short blocks" usually work to just the block itself (you take engine apart -- do most of the work)
In both cases you still have to pull the engine and reinstall it.
Not beginner mechanic work.
