I think we can call that an experiment that failed. It seems that it was intended to somewhat bypass the party system, but certainly has failed to give true representation to the voters since the general ideology that won is not what 60 percent of the voters wanted. Obviously the Democrats learned the value of not splitting their support among several ambitious members.
