I was wondering what this could have originally meant, then I thought it must have additional meaning in the Latin version:"cor sapientis in dextera eius et cor stulti in sinistra illius"
"Sinister" being the Latin word for "left, on the left side" but it also conveyed a sense of "unlucky, unfavorable," basically since its more common to be right handed, which evolved into the current usage of that word to mean an ominous impression.
It's funny how it still lines up though.
Very fitting.
BTW, I remember the verse from a long time ago, but never bothered to make a meme out of it. So when I saw this one, it seemed like it needed a larger audience.
Ecc 10:2 A wise person's heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish person's heart directs him toward the lef
Only in the Jesuit NIV type of underlying manuscripts.
ASV - Ecclesiastes 10:2 A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.
NKJV Ecclesiastes 10:2 A wise man’s heart is at his right hand, but a fool’s heart at his left.
KJV Ecclesiastes 10:2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.
That may even be a hint of how it came to be used somewhat like that in Latin. Then in some traditions even farther back, God had Adam make covenants via the right hand, setting the groundwork for the future traditions if so.
I have a conundrum like you wouldn't believe...I am left handed but I am VERY CONSERVATIVE...what does that make me?
A Patriot!
Tango Yankee...also, ret. mil...
Thanks for your service fren. I know it's a cliche', but I have a brother, uncles, nieces, and a son who all served. So it does hit close to home.
