This I can endorse. It’s hard to maintain ataraxia sometimes, but it’s essential.
Eudaemonia is possible, but only with epoche. I’m only half jesting. These are Ancient Greek philosophical terms for suspending judgement on unknowables, (epoche), maintaining equanimity, or peace of mind, (ataraxia) in order to live the “good life” (eudaemonia).
Epicurus and Diogenes were both adherents to these concepts, but had wildly different approaches. Epicurus feasted and Diogenes fasted. The middle ground would be bulimia, which though popular in ancient Rome, seems rather less desirable currently.
Socrates is probably laughing his ass off somewhere.
