I mean, yes and no. In Sodom the gays were surrounding houses and trying to break down the doors to rape a couple of angels so we are arguably not quite at that level yet.

God is the same yesterday, today and forever. God hates sin and it will be punished. Jesus’ first coming was to bring salvation - he came in peace preaching repentance and forgiveness of sins. Jesus second coming will be in judgment. The New Testament is very clear. Those who have not believed have been judged already.

God had already decided to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah. The angels went to inform a few good people to leave before it was destroyed.

And the story gives a pretty good reason on why it was destroyed. The damned city of Sodom was trying to have an orgy with the angels of God.
