My state sends out applications for mail-in ballots to EVERYONE. I have heard that people are hanging on to them, not throwing them away, and bringing them to the poll when they go to vote in-person. That way, if they are told they already voted with a mail-in ballot, they can have proof that they never sent in the application.
I was talking about the mail-in ballot application which is sent to everyone in my state. But, even better if you have the actual ballot and bring it with you when you vote in person.
