And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.— Psalm 78:11
My wife and I often joke about how we forget things. After all, as busy as life is, it is easy for us all to forget things. We have a million things going on. We have dozens of places that we need to be. Jobs have requirements and details for us to remember. Then, we go home and have dozens of things to remember there, too.
She usually forgets little things, like where she placed her cell phone. Yet, she will easily remember details that I could never imagine remembering. I typically remember the things that she forgets, like where I last saw her cell phone. It is amazing how God arranges things and put us both together as He did.
Everyone has a difference about what is most important to them and what they remember. We typically remember things we are passionate about or care deeply about. We remember things based on our personality and life experiences. While we all remember certain things, there are many things in life that we forget.
As the Psalmist writes these verses of scripture, he shares about how the people had forgotten the works of God. They had forgot about how God had parted the Red Sea. They had forgotten how God led them by cloud and fire. God had brought water from the rock, but they had forgotten. Their attention was turned to other things and they no longer remembered all the amazing things God had done.
It can be easy to be distracted by all the things going on around us where we forget important things. No matter how challenging, chaotic, and frustrating life may be, do not forget what God has done for you! God has done so much for each of us and we should remember those things and thank Him everyday!
