I've read countless prepping articles, I'm not sure I need another link to a prepping blog. I'm am more interested in knowing what my extremely smart anons are doing for prepping. An article might say I only need two weeks of food or 2 years of food, but realistically based on the political data gathered from this forum, is 3 months of food enough or too much? Is a couple cases of bullets enough or is more needed?
What prepping supplies and how much prepping supplies do YOU guys have considering that some food prepping makes sense but I doubt that things will be so bad that we need a years supply of food.
Thank you everyone!!! I'm just a worried father of 3 youngins trying to prep with a somewhat limited budget.
Also should I take out all my money from my bank and put it in a credit union or is it smarter to have it at my house because credit unions might not be accessible or might go under too?
I have about 3 years stored up, along with toiletries, ammo, seeds / gardening supplies, tools, etc. But we are the bugout house for many of our friends and family, so I am not sure we have enough. If those people can get here with their own supplies or if they aren't able to packup anything will make a big difference. We bought a freeze drier and put up our own FDed foods. I enjoy canning and we have tons of home canned veggies, meats, soups, jellies, etc. I know how to make bread and have a lot of wheat berries and other ingredients put up. We have some big solar generators (batteries) and solar panels, not enough to run the house, but enough to run our well, keep some freezers going, run the bread maker, etc.
We live very rural on 100 acres 30 miles from town. We have chickens, we plan on adding some livestock in the next year. Our ultimate goal is to be as self-sustaining as possible... but that is still a long ways off.
If it is going to be biblical, then 7 years of food is probably a good goal. But it would be pretty hard for the average person to attain, so I would save up a years worth and have plans to become self-sustaining in that year. Know how to garden and save seeds. Know what to do with the harvest to preserve it. Know how to hunt and clean an animal. I don't think there will be much wildlife left within a few months of SHTF, so maybe try to get a few kills early and preserve all that meat so you have protein to live off of.
Do you have a plan for water? Where are you going to poop? If you live on city water/sewer, you need a plan. If you live on well & septic, you need a plan to keep the well running. Hand pump, solar, batteries. A way to filter and clean water. Keep in mind, bleach has a short shelf life.
As far as money, I keep cash on hand for several months worth of bills, although the dollar will become worthless pretty quickly (IMHO). Precious metals are great, smaller pieces will be better for barter. Big pieces for wealth preservation. Never tell anyone what you have or you will become a target.
It drives me crazy when people know what is coming but say God will take care of them. God is giving you the knowledge and ability to prepare. You have your own free will, you must take care of yourself and your family. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_drowning_man
