Many got motivated to use public lynchings, like with Ye, because they wanted to send a few messages about how "WE ARE NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH" and "YOU JUST DRIBBLE THAT BASKETBALL AND FALL BACK IN LINE, SON" all with absolutely no clue that they were tricked into removing their masks on the very well-lit stage.
