Awhile ago, an excellent pede on another site, FCW, started a post that encouraged others to take a breather and share some stories on their accomplishments and learning experiences during the time of change we are all experiencing. We, understandably so, get caught up in the wheelings and dealings of politics, global events, the joys and sorrows of our lives, that it sometimes is hard to step back and just be human, with human experiences. Sharing these may help us enjoy the social aspects of being human that have, IMHO, fallen by the wayside. For instance, we can share what we have learned about ourselves, what we have been doing to prep, new realizations, new skills, etc. I know this isn’t Q related, but it most certainly is WWG1WGA.

I’ll start.

My husband has had a rough time in the last two+ years. He lost his job when a long standing company’s new billionaire owner pulled shenanigans and pretended to go belly-up. Hubby, and 130,000 or so Canadian employees got a shot in the head and kick in the teeth for their decades of service. Then, he was placed on “permanent leave without pay” at another job when he didn’t comply to the coof mandates, thus preventing him from collecting EI. Wow, was I ever proud of my awesome husband for sticking to his guns, but it has made things difficult. He is now at a job that barely makes rent. About three months ago, though, he started something that has made his eyes light up, and has given him purpose. He has learned how, and we are making, crossbows, medieval style. All perfectly legal. We have tweaking to do to make them with the correct draw strength for hunting, and are still working to make strings from scratch that can withstand many draws, but the joy and purpose it is giving him is indescribable, and immensely heartwarming. Me, while I am still working, have gotten into making hard ciders and medicinal meads. I have also continued in making tinctures and herbal medicines like in the times of old. We will not deal with pharma again, so I am getting back into doing stuff old school. I am continuing to expand my repertoire into preservation in as many ways as possible, adding this to filling up my balcony and apartment with as many growing edibles as I can. All are practical, yet immensely rewarding. These activities are keeping me very busy, but are also acting as distractions from all the crap going on in the world. I am sharing my old, and newfound knowledge with others, and this is bringing even more people into our community of like-minded individuals.

The impact this has had is enormous. We are CREATING things. Many things. We are creating purpose, joy, energy, biomatter, biomass. Just, creating. We are doing good, and feeling good doing it. We are working, in our own small way, to counteract the negative, destructive, “using” mentality of those who seek to oppress us. Yay for us!

Would you care to share your creative efforts?
