Both have 128,000 votes or less below their opponent with only 83% counted and 394,521 more votes to be counted. What happens if the next couple of batches that come in are fairing well for the GOP. Can they still win even if it's been called. Sorry I'm Canadian, I'm learning exactly how these things work

No, you're correct. The AP is lying. There are still over 300k votes to count from mostly REPUBLICAN areas. The election officials are selectively picking the democrat votes and withholding Republican ones.
