A meter that doesn't need to be "read" doesn't make it a "smart" meter. I have a new meter that is read from a vehicle that drives through the neighborhood, the electric company can not control it.

reading with binocular or drive by is still reading. I am talking about the one where they use the cell technology and send the reading over every hour.
