Someone gave Trump a heads-up. Trump himself was scheduled to be on the flight but decided at the last minute he was too busy to leave New York.

That implies that he knowingly let people that worked for him die and I just don't think that fits the picture of Trump AT ALL. He is a lot of things, but I don't think he would stand by and be able to watch that happen. He is a very compassionate man.
