I was in the AF and our base had a detachment of Army guys staying for a month or so while doing some kind of training. The base housed them in barracks that the AF IG had condemned and refused to house airmen in. The barracks had issues with the plumbing, roaches, rodents, etc. Talked to the army guys at one point and they were literally gushing about how awesome the barracks were and how cushy we AF types had it. They were not joking either, they loved those dilapidated piece of trash barracks because they were so much better than their barracks on the army base. Just holy f-balls, that blew my mind. So glad I didn't join the Army though the AF sure made up for it in misc mickey mouse BS.
I cannot believe they would saying things like that. I am glad you were in AF. I do not believe putting people in those barracks w/ problems like that is ethical. I know training them to be tough is good but you do not put people in conditions that would cause them health problems later on.
