Chess isn't a measure of intelligence. When I was a kid in the 1970's I had a little computer chess game called the Chess Challenger. It had an 8-bit CPU, and probably ran with a lower clock speed and 1/100th the memory of your Fitbit.
I could only occasionally beat it on Level 3. There were 10 levels of difficulty.
It was just an algorithm. There was nothing intelligent about it.
Elon Musk believes we are living in a simulation. His reasoning is that every technologically advanced civilization will eventually start creating simulations. So if there is one reality and trillions of simulations, then the chances that we are living a real universe are 1 in trillions.
The world stopped making sense to me when I read the Podesta emails. It seems like a mod is playing around with our world.
