We had 2 donors standing by that were not vaccinated and got all kinds of excuses that it wouldn't be feasible. They finally said if in the rare case she needed blood, they could stop the bleeding long enough for us to donate blood. I find it hard to believe this is not a bigger issue. Catholic Hospital, Catholic Doctor, and the last thing out of his mouth was "The Pope says it's OK!" Any experts out there want to weigh in on the introduction of mRNA blood into an unvaccinated bloodstream?
She did not need the transfusion, but . . .
Refused RhoGam shot for same reason. Made from donated plasma.
Really I thought it wouldn't go well for the baby if I didn't take that one. I hate the RhoGam shots my arm hurt for a week after.
If they wanted to give you rhogam, your baby was rh+. Your blood, if there's any crossover, would then have rh antibodies that could attack the blood of any later babies. If you were rh+ instead of rh- it wouldn't be an issue because only rh- blood would react to rh+ blood as an attack and respond with antibodies.
It's mostly for subsequent pregnancies. This is my last one. My doctor and I had a very detailed discussion. Only thing that would change it is if I start bleeding before labor, then I don't think I would have a choice any longer.
Edit to add: they usually give them in the hip? But yeah, they hurt like crazy. Huge needle.
Mine was in the hip and yeah, they definitely used a horse needle from the vet. It didn't hurt for days, though.
Really? Mine was in the upper arm and it didn't hurt at all. I think in the hospital after birth it was in my hip, but if it hurt, I didn't care after the whole L&D thing.
