Combine that a lack of learning critical thinking skills, how to weigh risk/benefit analysis for decisions, learn to research and be confident in discussion of issues, etc,ie. discernment, has left us with a mass of people who find it easy to simply be told what to do and happy to go along to get along. I'm reminded of a quote from Marcus Aurelius on the object of life that was posted here:
"The object of life is not to be on
the side of the majority,
but to escape finding oneself in the
ranks of the insane."
