That happened in our village. Some bright spark used the oil reservoir above the transformer for target practice. It pissed oil all day, with passers-by pointing at it but not reporting it. In the evening, the transformer exploded with a bang that was heard in the next village.

Kind of an ideal way to do it. Takes time for the temp to reach critical so plenty of time to vacate the area.
