They have been claiming “greater awareness” for the last 40+ years, but they haven’t been able to support that narrative with any actual evidence, or explanation as to why there might be “greater awareness”, or how exactly doctors are being trained differently than they were 5 years ago…
I mean, if you follow their logic, the fact that more kids are being diagnosed with ASD, leads to greater awareness of ASD, and this greater awareness leads to more diagnoses of ASD… which leads to even greater awareness of ASD…
Until eventually everyone is diagnosed with ASD, simply because everyone else is diagnosed with ASD
Family income also seemed to play a role as those with lower economic statuses are more often diagnosed with ASD. However, the causes for such discrepancies were not included in the current study.

I was autistic as a kid back in the 60's and they didn't even really know what it was back then, or if they did they didn't tell my parents.
In 2002, it was 1 in 166 kids. This is horrible news!
