'Chernobyl' literally means wormwood (in both Ukrainian and Belorussian; Russian is 'полынь горькая' polyn' gor'kaya). So for long enough, we here on the other side of the Great Pond have thought that was the moment when the waters were poisoned.
I must disagree. I am Ukrainian and have a Ukrainian bible. Chernobyl is not in that verse. Chernobyl means chorno = black, byl = pain. It was thought the name traces back to the black plague.
I spent that weekend with other students in Mogilev, 26 km from station in direction of fumes cloud – one of our 4 Olgas was from there and invited us, just before the exams' session. So tanned and cooked and studied and spent early, warm spring days at the lake.
After summer break, when we were all turning sicker and sicker, another Olga, formerly partorg of Sumy chemistry combinate, suddenly turned religious and told that story, among others. Yes, I'd heard that from other places before, but her explanation, and confirmation from the Mogilev-Olga (Belarusian) somehow cemented it.
Always wondered why the name of the plant would be so different from Russian one, but shrugged shortly, wasn't my area of interests then; just remembered.
Netflix released this series in 2017 well before what the world is learning and experiencing today. The Biblical reference to the prophecy the 3rd Angel poisoning the waters and the Q post "watch the water" seems to be a convergence of the 3 separate things merging at some point in the near future
I saw this a while back, don't think its available now. As far as i remember, he started to question the morality of what he was working on and was silenced.

That's strange and assuring at the same time :D

The herb itself has some interesting applications for treating the human body and the reference to that NASA named an asteroid "wormwood" in March of 2022 https://www.eclipseaviation.com/did-nasa-name-an-asteroid-wormwood/ Any thoughts ?
Wormwood is a dewormer, of course.
