If Musk is making a poll about stepping down as the CEO of Twitter, then it means that he has already found a CEO to run the place. Musk has said from day one that he doesn't intend to run Twitter forever. Just long enough to get them on the track that he needs them to be on, then the long-term CEO can take over and keep pushing in that direction. Financially, it also makes sense to have the new Twitter CEO start at the beginning of the new year. Less paperwork, if your reporting calendar begins from the 1st of january.
