Bowhead whales are the oldest known living mammals, with many estimated to be living over 200+ years of age.
We routinely still find stone spearheads in their blubber from before the Inuits had metal tips.
Last fun fact about whales in general - they don't drink salt water (they can tolerate some amount), and instead expel the water out of their mouth before swallowing. They need fresh water to survive and get fresh water from their food intake.
how do you get fresh water from eating saltwater dwelling krill? or fish??? Are fish the opposite of humans (whose bodily fluids are salty?) some more than others
The water the whale needs is pulled from the food itself. The krill (and other food sources) aren't just sticks of salt as they have bodies able to filter out the salt. The whales then need to consume large amounts of them to get their caloric / water needs.
