I think it is interesting how before the wokeness, the biggest games were Japanese games on consoles or very serious, hardcore games on PC by American developers
Wokeness came in and the "AAA" game was born. Cinematic (but not heavy on story or character development) games with mass appeal gameplay and "Hollywood" looking protagonists. It is the game equivalent of prime time TV. Vapid, empty, casual brain candy. Most of these games are usually propaganda pieces for some sort of political statement or virtue signal.
I don't think we will ever get another era where every genre was at its highest level. Platformers, JRPGs, RTS, fighters, etc doesn't matter what genre you loved they were all excellent
Now the focus on multiplayer irks me. Share buttons on controllers, social media elements, etc. I feel like it is a way to further divide people.
Exactly. Games are about making you feel like you accomplished something, without much effort now. Gone are the days where you would finish a game on easy mode and then finish again on hard because your friends told you there is a different ending to the story if you play on hard mode. Ironically games used to be much better when it was nerdy white man making them, now is the SJW lesbians and soy boys clamming the game industry needs more diversity and the end result is they end up making games that are not playable, or don’t even have any story to keep you connected. Perfect example is the StarCraft games. In the 90s the story was so good that it rivaled Star Wars, after the new activision blizzard SJW leftist took it over is not the same anymore. They turned the protos race from scientific ancient culture into a bunch of Kabbalist
