Protestants tried breaking away and getting back to the Bible and the Bible alone AKA Sola Scriptura, and the celebration of Christmas was even banned in the United States once upon a time, but those days are long gone.

Technically it is a Roman Catholic thing as they are the reason for the current calander being used. I am Coptic Orthodox and we celebrate Christmas on January 7th as we use the old calander.
