Some may remember a talk-radio guy named Tom Leykis. He gave similar advice, but was also entirely misled as to what constitutes “Eudaemonia” (the “good” life). He did advise free range fornicators not to date single mothers, lest they wind up with a kid they never wanted through a girl they’d rather forget than pay “child support” to for 18 years.
Maybe he actually cared about unwanted children. He often said so.
I say if motivational speakers float your boat, try Earl Nightingale. “You become what you think about most.” He’s from the ‘50s but does a good job with “straight from the shoulder” truth about how to be “a success”. “Don’t follow followers.” Solid advice. He is just rehashing Napoleon Hill though. All the self help motivational guys owe everything to him. That thing called “The Secret” and “Law of Attraction” is repackaged Napoleon Hill.
He was a Theosophical loon though, so at heart it’s a “deal with the devil” and essentially anti Christian even if it “works”.
Which it does, but at a price.
If your life is about you you’re missing the point. Turn around. The real target is at your 6. Think about Jesus. Lament your shortcomings compared to Him. Strive to emulate Him anyway. That’s real success. It really works too, and it’s free.
He’s no friend of Jesus, so no friend of mine.
