In 1978, as a 13 year old boy, I was fortunate enough to have seen KISS live in concert at the Pacific National Colosseum in Vancouver B.C.
Standard story. My mom drove me and three friends. She brought a book with her and waited in the car so she could drive everyone home.
It was festival seating and we were all piled up at the doors. When they opened it was just go for the best seat you can. We ended up about 15 rows up to the right of the stage. Awesome.
Inside was was the big lit up room with lots of people milling about, distant house music, occasional exciting instrument sounds, and little puffs of smoke in the air.
Then it went dark and in one instant I became a bass player.
The floor shook when Gene Simmons hit the first note.
BADUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMM.
I've been a bass player ever since.
He just called me "An Enemy."
I knew nothing back then, just the rock & roll, which was absolutely spectacular.
If you don't know, get your hands on Alive II. The LP.
That first bass moment shaped the rest of my life.
