I've been watching and following sports for 30 years, first I have heard of it.Surely something more likely in baseball than football?

Yes because taking a line drive to the chest with no pads on is going to do way more damage than what we saw today. If this level of play is all it took for something like this to happen then we’d have all seen it by now due to the amount of physical contact that is in every single play of football.
