IMO They are trying to separate Trump from the Republican party but Trump isn't going along with them. He is still waving their flag and won't let them gain any separation despite their attempts at Election failures in the midterms which were minimal. Therefore when voting for speaker they can't say when McCarthy gets voted in they could say the party is no longer Trumps.
