Jan. 8, Americans defeat the British in the War of 1812 at New Orleans.
That was a Wednesday.
One fun fact, and it proves how technology has developed, is that the treaty ending the war was actually signed on Christmas Eve 1814, but the news had yet to reach the battlefield in New Orleans in 1815, about two weeks later.
Yes, I know about the Treaty of Trent, but late or not, it put a very final punctuation (a strong PERIOD) on the status of America and its ability to beat the British. It was a sort of 'coup de gras' that (IMHO) started the British Empire on a downward trend that ended with India becoming independent and then a lot of other former colonies. The War of 1812 showed the world that it could be done, as if the American Revolutionary War had not done the same thing.
By the time of the Spanish-American War, America was seen on the world stage as a contender and a nation to be reckoned with.
Actually it showed the world that the Revolutionary War was not a fluke. The reason is because we received very little or no help from other nations in the War of 1812, and it proved that the British can be defeated twice. This is in addition to the fact that the British government performed operation "Mess with us and find out."
Was anything attributed to December 8th?

Don't forget that Evelan de Rothschild died on November 8th. With that pattern, I fully believe we'll see a death on Sunday.
So what happened Dec 8th ?

I would say the prisoner exchange is the most commonly known along with the marriage act
