The story of the rampant child abuse in the Church reminds me a lot of the great awakening. The public was first exposed to it in the 50’s/60’s, but most wrote it off. It was too evil, too widespread, and going on for too long. It was unthinkable for a such a respected organization.
But people were unrelenting at getting the information out. It slowly gained steam until the early 90’s when the general public finally accepted it.
