It makes sense in a way, everyone has a breaking point. Mine was July of 2020. You hit a point where you would rather navigate the consequences than comply. Its not isolated, it builds up, and it's about context. It's about awakening to the fact that not only is the thing they demand invasive but also harmful. Masks were required in public, lock downs were in public, and vaccine mandates, well, lots of people fought back, but there is a complex morale question there for people who thought initially the vaccine might be a net good. Many are awake now to the vaccine scam but it's been a slow road from passive compliance to active defiance. Normies have also seen the results of the measures taken over the last 3 years. They have seen how they were sold, what the results were, and have slowly been conditioned to say no. Someone could write a massive volume over all of the bait and switches that have come to light over the last 3 years. And it's not just politics and health, it's entertainment and story telling, it's finances and economics, it's education, child custody, and the reinvention of how our society approaches children, it's conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory proving true and pouring out into the mainstream discourse. Most people prefer truth to comfortable lies, but it's hard to acknowledge a lie when the reality it creates is comfortable.
Now we have an invasive measure that not only invades the privacy of your home but in the middle of economic freefall demands that you spend resources to switch to a more expensive utility that many regard as inferior. Unlike a vaccine that promises to to save lives, the best argument they can make is patently absurd to most people and delivered by their least impressive pawns in childish unsubstantiated arguments.
It's easy to laugh at people and be annoyed that this is the hill everyone starts fighting on but it makes sense. Most people alive were not raised to be brave, they don't live in cultures that value bravery or individuality. It's not natural for them to do what we do. And again it is hard to see through a lie you have come to rely on. But they have been seeing what's happening, learning to question the prescribed narrative, slowly getting angry, and slowly starting to see the pattern.
Now, the normies get a softball. Embrace gas stoves, this is a turning point. It's big, it's messy, it's invasive, it's obvious, and it's mostly benign. Gas stoves are a gateway drug to civil disobedience. It's a thing that's easy to fight against and it will become an experiment for ou fellow countrymen, can we actually make a change if we stand up? Have things gotten so bad that the government would do harm to us to justify tyranny? Fight by their side, make this moment a success.
Saving gas stoves will help save the soul of every normie that chooses to fight for thier individual sovereignty. Those normies will take gas stoves with them in their hearts to the next fight, and the next. Gas stoves will save the republic.
Also maybe from a base caveman brain standpoint, it is seen as a threat of someone taking your fire away which could mean death in winter, etc. Man has tamed fire for a long time so it is a primal thing.
And base-level caveman brain goes “the fuck you are” even in sub-conscious level. And the trigger wakes more people up to the threat.
I’m not psychologist but it makes sense to me from that viewpoint.
